Tahquitz Creek Golf Neighborhood

The Tahquitz Creek Golf Neighborhood Organization (TCGNO) is a resident-led community group serving neighborhoods around the Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort in Palm Springs, California. We bring neighbors together with city leaders, public safety, and community partners to share information, discuss local issues, and strengthen the quality of life in our area. Through community meetings, neighborhood initiatives, and events, TCGNO works to keep residents informed, connected, and engaged in the future of our neighborhood.

“The Tahquitz Creek Golf Neighborhood, a hidden enclave where iconic Alexanders and other midcentury residences capture Palm Springs' lifestyle, architecture, and views.”

A Little History

The Tahquitz Creek Golf Neighborhood may just be Palm Springs’ best-kept secret. Located near the eastern corner of South Palm Springs, Tahquitz Creek Golf Neighborhood is a bucolic community of condominiums and single-family homes nestled in and around the championship Lawrence Hughes-designed Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort from which we take our name.

Our neighborhood is adjacent to the scenic Tahquitz Creek Wash, and our 983 homes represent several architectural styles. The original 332-acre parcel was purchased in 1958 from the Palm Springs Turf Club for $1 million when the California Horse Racing Board denied them a license for a horse racing track. Development began later that year by the Westview Development Corporation and architect William Bray. Originally planned as a private country club, the Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort was sold to the City of Palm Springs in October 1959, creating a community of affordable golf course homes on fee based land, free of resort fees.

In 1964, George and Robert Alexander and architect Donald Wexler subdivided the eastern most streets to create “Green Fairway Estates” — a unique collection of homes that is an inspired and eclectic mix of midcentury styles. It’s a little-known and rarely seen enclave, even for die-hard modernists.

The Arnold Palmer Golf Management Company took over administration of the Resort in the mid-1980s, with a grand opening hosted by Arnold Palmer himself.

The following article from the Los Angeles Times published on July 27, 1958 gives a little historic perspective of the Tahquitz Creek Golf resort and surrounding area development.

About TCGNO

The Tahqutiz Creek Golf Neighborhood Organization (TCGNO) is one of several Neighborhoods organized under the Organized Neighborhoods of Palm Springs (ONE-PS). It was chartered in 2016 and is a non-profit organization. It has a Board of Directors that oversees its activities. There is an Annual Meeting held during the first quarter of every year.

Boundaries

The TCGNO boundaries have expanded as of the General Meeting held on March 16, 2019. This was done in accordance with a request from ONE-PS to fill in certain areas that are not affiliated with any Neighborhood Organizations. The new boundaries range from HWY 111 in the South, the Gene Autry Trail to the West, Dinah Shore Rd. to the North, and just beyond Golf Club Dr./Crossley Rd. to the East.
